A fan's attempt at mocking Mithali Raj

Former India Women’s captain Mithali Raj doesn’t shy away from giving epic replies to social media users who try to pull her leg. There were several instances of Mithali Raj silencing the trollers with bold replies. This time too, she silenced a fan who tried to mock her defensive advice to Team India recently on X (formerly known as Twitter). She gave an apt reply to the X user for quoting her mindset about mustering plenty of runs after batting first in an ODI game.

The drama unfolded when a social media user quoted her statement alongside Kevin Pietersen on the X handle. The user’s remark caught the attention of Mithali Raj and the latter decided to come up with the best reply, which went viral in no time on the internet.

The fans are quite aware of the fact that Women’s cricket is totally different from Men’s cricket because the average total is relatively on the lower side compared to the men’s game. Case in point, a social media user wrote, “Mithali: ‘India would look to get 280’, Pietersen: ‘Nothing less than 350.”Meanwhile, Mithali Raj responded, “The only ‘mindset’ reflected in this tweet is yours.”

In fact, a 300-run total in men’s cricket in the 50-over format has become too mainstream whereas that isn’t the case with India Women who went past the 300-run total only on four occasions. Under the captaincy of Mithali Raj, Indian Women went past thrice. They recorded their highest-ever ODI total of 358/2 against the Ireland Women’s cricket team in 2017.

On the other side of the coin, England Women registered 378/5 against Pakistan whereas West Indies Women recorded 368/8 against Sri Lanka. New Zealand Women went past the 400-run mark on four occasions whereas Australia Women went past the 400-run mark only once. These are the only two teams that went past the 400-run mark in the 50-over format.
