CSK skipper MS Dhoni has sustained a knee injury ahead of their first game in IPL 2023 against Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has given an update on MS Dhoni’s knee injury as he reckons the skipper is 100 percent playing in a game against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
MS Dhoni sustained the knee injury during a training session in Ahmedabad ahead of their first IPL 2023 game. In the CSK intra-squad match, MS Dhoni was seen wearing a kneecap. He was clearly limping when he came in to bat which raised some concerns over his participation in the opening game.
MS Dhoni didn’t keep wickets as well after sustaining the knee injury during the intra-squad match. After the CSK skipper missed the training session, there were speculations of him missing out on the game against Gujarat Titans.
The skipper is 100 percent playing: CSK CEO on MS Dhoni’s knee injury
“As far as I am concerned, the skipper is 100 percent playing. I don’t know about any other development,” CSK CEO told PTI when asked about MS Dhoni’s knee injury.
CSK will be aiming to start the IPL 2023 season on a high after having a terrible outing in the previous edition of the Indian Premier League. The MS Dhoni-led side had lost 10 out of their 14 games and was placed in the ninth position in the points table.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are already facing a couple of injury issues. Their key pacer Mukesh Choudhary has been ruled out of the complete IPL 2023 as he’s still recovering from an injury at the NCA in Bengaluru. They have named Rajasthan pacer Akash Singh as his replacement for this edition.
Ben Stokes, who was their costliest buy in the IPL 2023 auction, is recovering from a knee injury as well. The English all-rounder will participate only as a batter in the initial games for CSK. Stokes is crucial for the franchise in terms of the balance that he can provide in playing XI.
CSK will face deeper trouble if MS Dhoni’s knee injury is more than just a niggle as they don’t have any other genuine Indian wicketkeeper in their squad. While Devon Conway can keep wickets, CSK might actually want more overseas all-rounders to strengthen their bowling rather than selecting a genuine overseas batter in Conway. The other option is Ambati Rayudu, who has the experience of keeping wickets in a few IPL games for Mumbai Indians.
