Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni has moved to the Madras High Court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against IPS officer Sampath Kumar, who had made alleged derogatory remarks against Dhoni and related him to match-fixing.
The plea from Dhoni was scheduled to be heard on November 4 but for some reason, it was not possible to do so. The hearing is now scheduled for November 8 (Tuesday) according to reports.
The CSK skipper moved to the court filing criminal contempt only after taking the permission of the advocate general of Tamil Nadu, R Shunmugasundram.
IPL 2013 match-fixing scandal and 2014 CIVIL SUIT by MS Dhoni
In 2014, Dhoni launched a civil suit against IPS officer G. Sampath Kumar and the Zee Media Corporation seeking 100 CRORES in damages for linking his name to a scandalous incident.
G. Sampath Kumar was the Inspector general of Police during the 2013 IPL betting furrow that saw 3 Rajasthan Royals players (Ajit Chandila, Ankit Chavan, and S. Sreesanth) get banned from cricket.
Both CSK and RR were suspended for 2 seasons (2016 and 2017) from participating in IPL due to their clear involvement in illegal activities.
Court order following the civil suit of 2014 issued by MS Dhoni had restrained the Zee Media House and Sampath Kumar from using MSD’s name in derogatory lights like match-fixing.
Regardless, a court order was breached. Sampath Kumar recently filed an affidavit in Supreme Court containing objectionable remarks against MS, as well as the judicial systems and councils that represented the states in the case against Dhoni.
Sampath feels MS Dhoni is involved in a conspiracy alongside many others as he filed his case in Madras High Court despite not being a citizen of the state of Tamil Nadu.
Several names were thrown up during the 2013 IPL betting and match-fixing scandal, including that of CSK skipper MS Dhoni.
