The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is contemplating bringing former Team India skipper MS Dhoni into the side’s T20 international setup after failing to gain gold in T20 WC 2022.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni remains the only captain under whom Team India managed to win ICC trophies since Kapil Dev in 1983. The 41-year-old titan led the Men in Blue in 10 ICC events and won three (3) of them.
MS Dhoni to be appointed as Director of Cricket; Dravid to NOT coach in T20
The Telegraph reports that coaching in all three formats has proved too DEMANDING on Rahul Dravid and hence, he will be relieved of T20 duties.
The BCCI is interested in appointing MS as the Director of Cricket and spearheading the T20 activities of the Men in Blue in a permanent role.
Earlier, MS Dhoni was given a temporary role as the side’s mentor during T20 WC 2021; an event where Team India came crashing down from the league stages itself. It is believed a bigger role will certainly help MSD perform better.
Later this month, the APEX COUNCIL of the BCCI is scheduled for a meeting where the issue of involving MS Dhoni in India’s T20 setup will be discussed after Rohit and co.’s 2022 T20 WC fiasco.
The report also claims IPL 2023 will be the CSK captain’s last and he’ll announce his retirement from competitive cricket after it. Therefore, Roger Binny-headed BCCI has set things moving to get MS registered with them as soon as possible.
There has been an outrage about the failure of Team India in big events after Dhoni’s departure. Fans and former cricketers alike have openly criticized the captain(s), with Gautam Gambhir even claiming that no Indian skipper will grab two (2) World Cups like MSD once did.
Notably, in the five ICC tournaments, since MS Dhoni stepped down as the skipper after T20 WC 2016, the Men in Blue have not won the championship on a single occasion.
