The pace menace of Pakistan was there to see for everyone during today’s T20 WC game as each of the quicks threatened Netherlands batsmen, with Haris Rauf giving an ugly injury to Bas de Leede.
The scary incident transpired on 2nd last ball of Netherlands’ batting PowerPlay and forced de Leede to leave the field with blood oozing out from near his eye.
Bas de Leede gets 4 stitches after a Haris Rauf bouncer leaves his face scarred
Spirited as he was, de Leede struggled to put bat on ball throughout his 6 run knock off 16 deliveries. The telling blow came in the form of a nasty bouncer from Rauf that zipped past his blade and left his face scarred.
Thanks to the extra bounce available at Perth, the bouncer climbed up on him. The express pace of Haris Rauf meant Bas de Leede was late in his attempted pull and missed the ball.
The ball hit him flush on the helmet grille and also smashed into his beautiful face. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, Rizwan and Rauf came to check up on the injured cricketer.

Bas de Leede was forced to leave the field immediately as blood oozed out from his cheekbone area. He later had to get 4 stitches to get the cut under his right eye closed.
Though the facial injury to 22-year-old de Leede appeared horrific as was, it could’ve been much more diabolical. Had the ball climbed an inch more, it may have broken his eye socket.

Netherlands could only put 91 runs on the board at the loss of 9 wickets as just 2 of the 11 batters crossed the 10-run mark.
One of the most successful bowlers for the Dutch side, Bas de Leede could not take the field in the second half and was missed by the Men in Orange as Pakistan chased the tiny total with 37 deliveries still left.
