Team India played a do-or-die match against South Africa on Sunday evening as they were reeling behind by 0-1 in the 3-match ODI series. The young duo of Ishan Kishan and Shreya Iyer shined with the bat and took their team home. The former attended a press conference after the match, where Ishan Kishan gives a solid reply to a reporter who asked him about rotating the strike.
The Indian team was invited to bowl first after the Proteas’ captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to bat first. While the Indian bowlers made an impact during the first powerplay, the South African batsmen batted rather comfortably post that. However, the Indian bowlers made a great comeback as they gave runs just around the economy of 6 in their last 10 overs.

In the second inning when team India was chasing a target of 279 runs, they lost 2 wickets inside the powerplay but it was the partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan which sealed the game for the Indian team. A press conference took place after the match where Ishan Kishan gives a solid reply to a reporter when he was asked about his reliance on big hits rather than looking for singles and doubles.
Rotating the strike is an integral part of batting but modern-day players are relying more on the power-hitting and less on quick running. Ishan Kishan comes from the school of thought which believes in big-hitting and the same was conveyed by the bowler to a reporter who quizzed the batsman about his batting style. Ishan Kishan gives a solid reply to the journalist as he talked about his ability to hit sixes at will.
“Rotate karne ki jaha tak baat hai toh wo kuch players ka strength hota hai, kini ka strength hai chhakka maarna. Toh mere jaisa koi chhakka bhi itni jaldi nahi maar sakta, main bohut asaani se maarta hun. Wo mera strength hai. Toh agar mai chhakke se hi kar leta hun kaam to rotate ka utna sochta nahi hun (Some players have the strength to rotate the strike, my strength is to hit sixes. I hit sixes effortlessly and not many can do that. If I do the job by hitting sixes, there’s no need to think about rotating the strike much),” said Ishan Kishan in the press conference.

It is to note that Ishan Kishan looked in sublime touch yesterday and missed out on a well-deserved hundred by just 7 runs. The left-handed batsman got out at the score of 93 off just 84 balls and his inning was laced with 7 huge sixes. He was involved in a crucial 161-run partnership with Shreya Iyer, who went on to score his century. Both the batsmen ensured a win for their team and the decider will now be played on 11th October in Delhi.
