With the drums set to roll for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction, franchises remain busy discussing their strategies for the bidding war. After the introduction of two new teams into the league- Lucknow and Ahmedabad, the mega auction this year will present a diverse pool of players.
Talking about Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the franchise was supposed to undergo a captaincy transition with their current CSK captain MS Dhoni forwarding the reins to Ravindra Jadeja.
MS Dhoni delays the plans of captaincy transition
However, if a report of the InsideSport is to be believed, Dhoni will stay as the leader of the ‘Yellow Army’. While the former India cricketer wanted a smooth transition, starting this year, the plans seems to have been delayed as of now.
“There have been no discussions regarding the matter. We will cross the bridge when the time comes. Dhoni is CSK captain. He is the first player of CSK and when he decides to step down, he will make that call. We are now focused on the auction,” a CSK source said as quoted by InsideSport
“See, you are talking about Dhoni, who has set examples after examples. He left the top retention spot for Jadeja and has been one of the first to arrive for CSK camp every time. He is fit, led the team to another title. Why would he retire mid-season? All of those discussions will take place at the right time. Right now, his focus is on auction.

Dhoni took CSK to their fourth IPL title last season as his leadership played a great hand in the franchise’s successful campaign. The wicketkeeper-batsman is still very much fit and has already arrived in Chennai to discuss the strategy for the upcoming auction.
For the unknown, CSK has retained Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Moeen Ali along with their skipper MS Dhoni for IPL 2022.
