This decade was the best of Indian Cricket’s history. In 2011, India won their first World Cup since 1983. Two years after in 2013, India clinched ICC Champions trophy by beating hosts England in the final. In this decade, India won three Asia Cups, two under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2010 and 2016 and the one under Rohit Sharma in 2018.
Not only in limited-overs cricket but team India also dominated the test cricket. By the end of this decade, India is at the top spot in ICC test rankings. They are doing exceptionally well in the ongoing ICC Test Championship. India is still unbeaten after their first 7 tests of the tournament.
Only One team India player In Ricky Ponting XI
As the decade comes to an end, legendary batsman and one of the most successful skippers in cricket history Ricky Ponting named his test team of the decade. Despite a great year of India in test cricket, Ricky Ponting doesn’t believe that that there are more than one Indian players who are worthy to be in test team of the decade.
Virat Kohli is the only Indian in Ricky Ponting’s test team of the decade. Ponting chose to ignore Ravichandran Ashwin who is the highest wicket-taker in this decade. Ashwin picked 362 wickets in 70 tests in this decade. Instead of Ashwin, Ponting picked Australian spinner Nathan Lyon who picked 380 wickets in 95 matches in this decade.
Ponting picked only Virat Kohli from team India although he named him the captain of his team. This was a dream decade for Virat as he succeeded in all three formats of the game both as a player and as a captain. Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, India is currently the no.1 test side in the world.
Everyone's picking teams of the decade so I thought I'd join in the fun. This would be my Test team of the 2010's:
David Warner
Alastair Cook
Kane Williamson
Steve Smith
Virat Kohli (c)
Kumar Sangakkarra (wk)
Ben Stokes
Dale Steyn
Nathan Lyon
Stuart Broad
