The ongoing test series between Australia and Pakistan has had its fair share of fun banter on and off the field. On the field, however, there is one particular aspect of the game that has been quite disappointing for devout fans of the classic format of the game.Â
The first two matches of the series were played out in egregiously flat surfaces at Rawalpindi and Karachi respectively; which virtually resulted in the both the contests ending up as batter-friendly stalemates. Granted, there was an exciting finish to the second game, with Pakistan putting up a commendable fourth-innings batting display.
But overall, the flat and benign nature of the Pakistan pitches have been quite disappointing. The ICC, for one, didn’t at all seem impressed with the batting buffet on offer, and even rated the Rawalpindi wicket below average. Pursuant to this rating, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja also went on to express his disappointment at the ‘uncompetitive’ nature of the surfaces.Â

And sadly, from the looks of it, things aren’t going to be much different for the upcoming third test match at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium either; as the curators seemed to have prepared an absolute ‘road’ of a wicket for the series finale. Don’t take our word for it, but Australia opener David Warner certainly didn’t hold back any of his emotions in letting fans know what to expect for the Lahore test.
Over on his latest story on Instagram, Warner uploaded a morphed photo of the Lahore surface with the pitch replaced with an image of a road.
Maybe third time’s the charm, and Warner finally manages to get to his century in this belter of a Lahore wicket? Who knows?
