India won their opening encounter against Pakistan and defeated Hong Kong in the following match, which made their journey to Super 4 stage rather comfortable. However, in the Super 4 encounter between India and Pakistan, the latter trumped the former by 5 wickets, solidifying their chances to reach the finals. In their next fixture against Sri Lanka, team India couldn’t rise to the occasion and were eliminated from the tournament and now PCB Chief Ramiz Raja shares his thoughts on why team India couldn’t go ahead.
The final of the Asia Cup 2022 will be played between the inspired Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Sunday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. PCB Chief Ramiz Raja interacted with the media ahead of the big clash and explained why team India couldn’t perform to their potential. During his interaction, Raja said that team India made a lot of changes in their Playing XI which ultimately led to their downfall.
“You have seen the team’s ranking; the results are also visible. If we compare the team of India and Pakistan, people have been asking me why am I playing the same combination? You will leave them injured or so… My point is that we have handled a particular situation and won games. So, why should I change the winning model. India went down only because they are not letting model set and making too many changes,” said PCB Chief Ramiz Raja.
As for team India, they will be gearing up for a 3-match T20I series against Australia, which will be followed by a 3-match T20I and 3-match ODI series against the Proteas. Both these teams will be touring India and the Asian team will want to figure out their team combination before the mega event T20 World Cup begins.
