The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 came to a riveting climax on May 3. Peshawar Zalmi had the last laugh in the cricket battle as they came through with flying colours. Led by Babar Azam, Zalmi lifted their second PSL title after beating Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets in the final at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
To be honest, the final never really felt like a close contest. Hyderabad Kingsmen struggled right from the start. Their batting just didn’t click on the big day. They were bowled out for only 129 runs in 18 overs, which is below-par in modern T20 cricket.
Saim Ayub tried to hold things together with a patient 54 off 50 balls, but he didn’t get enough support from the other end. And then came the real difference-maker- Aaron Hardie.
He completely changed the game with the ball first. Hardie picked up four wickets for just 27 runs and made sure Hyderabad never got any momentum. Nahid Rana also did his job well, picking up two wickets and keeping the pressure on.
Chasing 130 was never going to be too difficult, and Zalmi made it look even easier. Aaron Hardie wasn’t done yet. He stepped up again, this time with the bat, and played a calm, match-winning knock. His unbeaten 56 off 39 balls included some clean boundaries, and he guided Zalmi home in just 15.2 overs. Mohammad Ali picked up three wickets for Hyderabad, but by then, the game had already slipped away.
Hardie fully deserved the Player of the Match award. Performing in a final like that, both with bat and ball, is something special. While the final belonged to Hardie, the tournament had another standout performer, Sufiyan Muqeem.
He was named Player of the Series, and rightly so. The young bowler picked up 22 wickets in 11 matches at an average of just 14.41. That kind of consistency is rare, especially in a T20 league where batters usually dominate.
PSL 2026 Prize Money:
Now let’s talk about prize money, because that’s always a big talking point. The PSL offers a strong financial reward for teams. While exact figures can vary slightly, the winning team usually takes home a massive prize, running into crores in Indian currency. The runners-up also receive a significant amount.
| Award | Winner | Prize Money |
| Winners | Peshawar Zalmi | USD 500,000 (INR 4.7 crore approx.) |
| Runners-up | Hyderabad Kingsmen | USD 300,000 (INR 2.8 crore approx.) |
But honestly, for teams like Peshawar Zalmi, it’s more about legacy than money. Winning a title builds reputation. It adds weight to the captain’s legacy, and this win is a big boost for Babar Azam as a leader. Speaking of Babar, he had a dream season.
He finished as the highest run-scorer in PSL 2026. The right-hander mustered 588 runs in just 11 innings at an incredible batting average of 73.50 and a strike rate close to 146. That’s consistency and aggression combined, exactly what you want from your captain.

Fakhar Zaman also had a strong season. He scored 401 runs in just eight matches and registered four fifty-plus scores, the most in the tournament. He looked dangerous almost every time he walked in to bat. When it comes to power-hitting, Sahibzada Farhan and Kusal Mendis stole the show. Both players smashed 23 sixes apiece and showed how important big hitting has become in T20 cricket.
There were several other awards as well. Hyderabad Kingsmen won the Spirit of Cricket award. This shows the kind of attitude they played with despite losing the final. Hunain Shah was named Emerging Player, while Shadab Khan took home the All-rounder of the Tournament award. Kusal Mendis was impressive behind the stumps throughout the season and deservedly won the Best Wicketkeeper award.
