In a sudden turn of events, the Board Of Cricket Control in India has managed to change Rahul Dravid’s mind on coaching India’s senior team. Reports claim that BCCI prez Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah had a meet-up with Rahul on Saturday, and after a long negotiation, Rahul finally agreed to pen a two-year deal as India’s new head coach.
So what was holding Dravid back? Well, being the simple-yet-class man that he is, “The Wall” chose to away from the limelight, unearthing young talents and honing their skills at National Cricket Academy, India. Dravid chose to put in rigorous efforts(at a lower salary), if it meant nurturing Ravi Bishnoi, Ishan Kishan, Rishab Pant, etcetera into the talents that they now are. Rahul Dravid still cares about the up-and-coming generation. Always will.
Therefore, BCCI has signaled at allowing him to continue monitoring them even though he’s been selected as the senior team’s coach. Here’s what an official’s statement reads- “He has put a method in place and someone else can take it over from here. Dravid can always keep an eye on it even if he becomes the head coach. We haven’t still decided on his exact role and if need be, he would be made overall in-charge of men’s cricket, under whose umbrella both senior and junior men’s cricket will come under.”
A few weeks ago, Ravi Shastri had stated that he wanted to move on from the coaching gig. He’s already overachieved as a coach, winning Border-Gavaskar Trophy and beating England in England. Ravi said, “I really believe in one thing- never overstay your welcome,” leaving the coveted designation empty. And now, Rahul Dravid is all set to take it up and control Indian cricket’s near future.

India’s greatest number 3, Rahul Dravid amassed more than 24000 international runs in a career spanning 509 matches. His tenure will kick-off with a bilateral series against New Zealand(after the T20 World Cup) and terminate after the 2023 World Cup is concluded.
