In Bollywood, if you’re the child of a famous actor or director, you’re born a star. Regardless of your acting skills, you are guaranteed a leading role in your debut film. The link between Bollywood and nepotism has been decades old. However, Agni Chopra stands out as an exception, who chose not to use nepotism as a springboard and instead, he is pursuing his own dreams.
Agni Chopra is the son of the famous Bollywood producer and director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and the renowned author Anupama Chopra. His father has been active in Bollywood since 1976 and has produced several successful films including “3 Idiots,” “PK,” “Munna Bhai MBBS,” and “Sanju.” His recent film, ’12th Fail’, which he directed and produced, also turned out to be a big hit.
If Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted to, he could have launched his son as an actor in a high-budget film. However, Agni Chopra never wanted to work in Bollywood, and his father respected his decision. Instead, Agni Chopra aims to represent himself in the Indian Cricket Team, and with his debut Ranji Trophy season, he has taken a big stride toward his ultimate goal.
Agni Chopra having a Dream Ranji Season
Agni Chopra has represented Mumbai U19 in his early career. Now, the 25-year-old batter is playing for Mizoram in his debut Ranji season. In his debut innings against Sikkim, he scored an impressive 166 runs innings. Interestingly, in the innings, he scored 78% of his team’s total runs as Mizoram was bundled out for 214 runs. In the next innings of the match, he added 92 runs to his tally. Despite Mizoram’s loss in the game, Agni garnered attention.
Agni Chopra went on to score centuries in his next two matches against Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. In his 4th game against Meghalaya, he slammed centuries in both innings. The son of Vidhu Vinod Chopra has scored 92, 166, 15, 164, 10, 114, 101, and 105 in his first 8 innings with a whopping average of 95.8.
Currently, Agni Chopra is playing his 5th match of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season against Hyderabad. In the first innings of the game, he added 43 runs to his tally. With 810 runs in 9 innings, currently, Chopra is the highest run-scorer in the ongoing Ranji season. The performance is enough to catch Indian selectors’ attention. The ongoing game against Hyderabad is Mizoram’s last group game of the season.
In an interview, Agni said that his father could have easily launched him into Bollywood, but he is not made for it. “I was never interested in movies. I mean, I love watching movies and have a great time, but it was never my passion,” said Agni Chopra.
