The Indian Premier League (IPL)season so far for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) under the captainship of Faf Du Plesis has been full of peaks and valleys. Both the team and the personall have not performed to the best of their potential. The team has lost two games on the trot and both the losses were embarassing to say the least.
One of the players who has really been struggling to pick up form is IPL’s all time leading run scorer Virat Kohli. The 33-year-old is in the worst form of his life as he was dismissed on back to back ducks and then scoring just 9 runs in the previous match against Rajasthan Royals.
Former Indian cricketer RP Singh believes that Virat Kohli could be dropped by the RCB starting XI soon. After Anuj Rawat was dropped from the team, Kohli was promoted to the top of the order against Rajasthan Royals in Pune but failed to impress as dismissed by Prasidh Krishna on just 9 runs.
Explaining his views, RP Singh said, “He is, without a doubt, a major player, but he is currently out of form. We noticed how many inside edges there were today; he is normally the bowler who dominates the bowlers right away.”
Singh continued, “Both team management and Kohli are making an effort; it’s not like they aren’t. But he’s still a long way from being in good shape. If he has a couple of bad matches, RCB will consider resting him and giving him a break.”
RP Singh further explained, “RCB’s bowling used to be a concern; now it’s their batting; in fact, their biggest issue is how to play the game. The hitters may have been told to simply hold and protect their wicket.”
Former India coach Ravi Shastri also stated that that Kohli should take a break from cricket and come back storngly as he has been under tremendous pressure of performing for a long while.

The hopes of RCB faithfuls is that Kohli returns to his usual best and help the team finish in the top 4 first and hope to win the title for the first time. They will be up against Gujrat Titans in their next match who are currently at the top of table and in red hot form.
