Team India completed back-to- back clean sweeps against West Indies in the ODI & T20I series and are now gearing up for the T20I series against Sri Lanka. An 18-member squad was announced recently which featured Deepak Chahar as the leader of the pace attack. However, soon after the announcement, BCCI came up with a shocking piece of news which informed the fans that Deepak Chahar won’t be able to take part in the series due to an injury.
Deepak Chahar’s injury may be more serious than it looked
Deepak Chahar has been a go to bowler for the Indian team and even for his franchise Chennai Super Kings. His ability to swing the ball both ways, makes him special and effective in the opening overs of an inning. Chahar proved to be quite useful in the recently concluded T20I series against Windies, however the bowler will miss the series against Sri Lanka. If reports are to be believed, Deepak Chahar’s injury is so serious that he may have to miss the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
Deepak Chahar sustained a right quadriceps injury while bowling in the last T20I against West Indies. The bowler had to leave the field after bowling only 1.5 overs and did not bowl after that. Deepak Chahar’s injury will be a big blow for team India and also Chennai Super Kings who rely on the services of Chahar heavily. The pacer will undergo treatment at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for his recovery.
Apart from Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav has also been ruled out of the Sri Lanka series as the batsman suffered a hairline fracture while he was standing in the slips. Yadav was awarded with the Man of the Series award for his brilliant batting throughout the series, especially the last match where the right-handed batsman went all guns blazing and scored 65 runs off just 31 deliveries.
