Yuvraj Singh was one of the first superstars in T20I cricket. His remarkable performance in the 2007 T20 World Cup, including the iconic six sixes in an over, is unforgettable. However, Yuvraj Singh could never fully justify his superstar tag in the Indian Premier League. Despite fetching record-breaking amounts in IPL auctions, his performances in most seasons remained under par. This was one of the reasons behind his early retirement from BCCI cricket.
After winning the IPL title with Mumbai Indians in 2019, Yuvraj Singh has not been seen in the league. He is keen to make a return to the cash-rich tournament. A few months ago, Yuvraj Singh expressed his desire to mentor an IPL franchise but hasn’t received a positive response from any of them. He even revealed that he asked for a coaching role with Gujarat Titans but was ignored by Head Coach Ashish Nehra.
Yuvraj Singh likely to join Delhi Capitals coaching staff
As per a report by Sportstar, Delhi Capitals are eyeing the 2011 World Cup winner for a coaching role. Yuvraj was part of Delhi Capitals in 2015 when they bought him for ₹16 crore, which was a record amount at that time. In IPL 2025, Delhi is expected to make several changes to the coaching staff and team squad.
Ricky Ponting has already been removed from the Head Coach position. Earlier reports indicated that Sourav Ganguly would take over the role. However, recent reports suggest that the franchise wants Ganguly to continue in his role as Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals, and they are now exploring other options for the coaching position. It will be interesting to see if Yuvraj Singh ends up as DC’s Head Coach or any other coaching role.

Yuvraj Singh has played a key role in the success of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, whom he mentored in Punjab cricket. The 42-year-old also shares a strong bond with Sourav Ganguly, his first captain in international cricket. Yuvraj Singh’s extensive experience could bring a positive impact to Delhi Capitals.
