After Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title last year, rumours were afloat that MS Dhoni will retire on a happy note. However, to everyone’s surprise, the leader of the ‘Yellow Army’ was retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auction.
While Dhoni was the second retention, CSK shelled out 16 crore from their purse to retain star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The Gujara-based cricketer is a valuable asset in T20 cricket as he brings his three-dimensional ability to the table.
MS Dhoni might handover captaincy baton to Ravindra Jadeja
With Dhoni available for CSK in the upcoming season of IPL, he will captain the franchise most probably. However, if some of the reports are to be believed, CSK will undergo a massive transformation, starting from the IPL 2022, with Dhoni voluntarily handing over the captaincy to Jadeja.
According to the reports, Dhoni is working along with the management of CSK in a bid to make the transition process smooth. The former India cricketer will continue as a player and act as a mentor to Jadeja, in his initial years of IPL captaincy.
Dhoni has captained CSK since 2008 but as time stops for none, sooner than later he will have to pass the baton to someone. While that ‘someone’ in all likelihood seems to be Jadeja but Ruturaj Gaikwad can be another ideal captaincy candidate. The youngster played a pivotal role in CSK’s successful triumph last year. Adding to his resume, the youngster comes from Dhoni’s school of thoughts.
