Many cricketers start playing cricket at a very tender age, allowing them to hone their skills over a long period. While we have heard stories of cricketers thriving in life, with amenities and resources playing a part in the early stages of their journey, few others have done it without amenities, making their journey even more worth applauding and that’s what exactly Shamar Joseph has done to announce his arrival in the sport.
Hailing from a small community in Guyana, the boy faced significant challenges in his life, as he had little to no access to the internet or telephone services. He took a liking to cricket after he grew up watching Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh, frontline bowlers of the West Indies cricket team. Shamar Joseph would watch the highlights and simply emulate them in his tape ball games in the village.
The youngster was inducted into the sport when he played for Tucber Park Cricket Club in a few first-division and second-division matches. Since then, he rose through the ranks and went on to represent the West Indies at the age of 24. The right-arm pacer who made his debut against Australia stunned the cricket fraternity by taking a fifer in unfamiliar climes. Notably, his 5/94 is the best test debut for any West Indian bowler in Australia. He pitched in with a match-winning 7/68 in the second Test against Australia at The Gabba, which helped West Indies clinch a Test on Australian soil after 27 years.
RCB eyes Shamar Joseph as Tom Curran’s replacement
Meanwhile, in the latest development, Royal Challengers Bangalore are considering Shamar Joseph as the replacement for Tom Curran in the upcoming edition. Earlier, the Bengaluru-based franchise roped in the likes of Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Tom Curran, and Lockie Ferguson in the IPL 2024 auction. On the contrary, the franchise released a quality bowling trio namely Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Harshal Patel.
RCB bought Tom Curran at the IPL 2024 auction for INR 1.5 crore but the Englishman picked up a knee injury during his spell with Sydney Sixers in Australia’s premier T20 competition. After getting ruled out of the BBL, he opted out of ILT20 2024 and the Pakistan Super League. Meanwhile, as per recent reports, RCB is looking for an option to replace Tom Curran, who could be the Gabba hero Shamar Joseph.
Prasanna, who previously worked as a performance analyst for RCB took to his X handle to drop a hint indirectly. “Hopefully Shamar Joseph if he gets an opportunity in IPL , I can guarantee you that he will PLAY BOLD. You know if you know.” tweeted Prasanna on his X. If RCB manage to secure his services, it could prove to be an absolute gamechanger for them going forward in IPL 2024 season.
