India’s 2021 T20 World Cup campaign was pure shambles. Despite having the best run-rate amongst all their group-mates, Kohli and co. couldn’t make it past the Super-12 stage owing to poor losses against Pakistan and New Zealand.
However, there’s isn’t much of a breathing space for the men in blue. From the third week of November, they’ll be up against Black Caps yet again. New Zealand will tour India for a five-match tour; Virat missing four of them. Owing to a tiring last six months, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Md. Shami may also miss the whole tour or a part of it.
Rohit Sharma to captain Indian test side, says report
November 17 onwards, New Zealand will be touring the indian subcontinent for a five-match series. The tour, which comprises 3 T20Is and 2 tests, will see Rohit Sharma leading the side in four matches. While this will be the first time Rohit is permanently appointed as the T20I skipper, that’s not all.
According to TOI, the tour will also mark Rohit Sharma’s maiden stint as international test captain. Reports be believed, Virat Kohli will miss the first test and Rohit will replace him as the test chief, although just for a solitary match.
Test vice-captain, Ajinkya Rahane, will continue to be the deputy in whites, but he won’t be given the test captaincy. Post the Gabba hundred, Rahane has been woefully out of form and it seems that his barren run has forced the management to appoint Rohit as the captain.
Also, Rohit Sharma’s recent run has been a complete contrast compared to Ajinkya Rahane’s. Ever since his comeback to the test arena a couple of years ago, Rohit has hit a purple patch. It remains to be seen if the reports from TOI are completely true, but if they are… We’re totally up for it.
