India showed their dominance in the T20Is and Test series against New Zealand which ended today with a thumping win by the hosts. The T20I series was a beginning of a new era as Rohit Sharma donned the full-time cap of team India’s T20I captain. On the other hand, Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach for the team. Now, in a new development, India’s possible changes for South Africa tour may include Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain as well.

There have been a lot of speculations over Kohli’s role as the ODI captain after he left the T20I captaincy. There have been rumours that Kohli may leave the ODI captaincy as well, however nothing concrete has come out from the authorities and Kohli himself. If reports are to be believed, India’s possible changes for South Africa tour may include Rohit Sharma as the skipper in the 50-over format.

It is being reported that the new head coach Rahul Dravid wants to give all the responsibility of the shorter formats to Rohit Sharma. The recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand saw Rohit Sharma as the full-time T20I captain for the first time. The team completed a clean sweep as they dominated the Kiwis in all the three matches. India’s possible changes for South Africa tour may have this surprise for the fans according to a BCCI source.

India’s possible changes for the South Africa tour

The air will only be cleared once the team for the South Africa tour is announced, however India’s possible changes for South Africa tour may well bring shock and surprise for the fans. “As of now, it looks difficult that Virat would be able to keep his ODI captaincy but since ODI isn’t important this year with very few matches here and there, one can think of delaying the decision,” a senior BCCI source was quoted saying to PTI.

India’s possible changes for South Africa tour include the removal of Ajinkya Rahane from the role of vice-captain of the team. The batsman has been in a poor form for a very long time and was out of the playing XI in the second Test against New Zealand owing to a minor left hamstring strain. “Obviously, he is going to South Africa but had he not got injured, there was a high chance of him getting dropped from the eleven. So if he is not a sure-shot starter, how can he remain the deputy,” the BCCI source said.

It will be interesting to see India’s possible changes for the South Africa tour. It looks like it is going to bring both shock and surprise for the Indian fans. As for now, we all need to wait for the announcement of the squad for the tour.
