In a tournament packed with big names and bigger reputations, Sai Sudharsan has quietly carved a niche for himself by scoring runs consistently. Rightly so, Sai Sudharsan’s IPL average has increased to a great extent, more than anyone else in the IPL.
As we can see, the spotlight usually finds the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, Suryakumar Yadav, or other big names; the left-handed stroke-maker from Tamil Nadu has been steadily building a reputation as one of the most consistent and underrated batters in IPL history.
Sai Sudharsan’s IPL average soars high
It is worth mentioning here that Sai Sudharsan’s IPL average is 50.03, and now, with a batting average like that in the world’s most competitive T20 league, it is time we start talking about him more seriously. What makes his case even stronger is the rarity of his IPL average, above 50, a benchmark that even some legends haven’t touched in their careers.
The 23-year-old who scored 1651 runs in 37 games (2 centuries, 11 fifties) is still in the early phase of his IPL journey. This speaks volumes about his temperament, shot selection, and hunger for runs. He is currently the leading run-getter in the ongoing season as he mustered 617 runs in 12 games at an average of 56.09.
In the recently concluded encounter against the Delhi Capitals, Sudharsan produced a batting masterclass that was as stylish as it was destructive. Chasing a stiff target of 200 after KL Rahul’s sublime 112 off 65 balls*, Gujarat Titans came out with intent and never lost a single wicket in the run chase at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Sai Sudharsan remained unbeaten on 108 off 61 deliveries, peppering the ground with 12 fours and 4 sixes. He scored at a strike rate of 177.05.

At the other end, his captain, Shubman Gill, matched him stroke for stroke as he remained unbeaten on 93 off 53 balls*. Overall, the GT skipper hit 3 fours and 7 towering sixes. Together, they led Gujarat Titans to a 10-wicket win with an over to spare and, in the process, confirmed a spot in the playoffs.
With every inning, Sai Sudharsan is breaking stereotypes about what a modern T20 batter should look like. In IPL 2023, Sudharsan was one of the architects of Gujarat Titans’ dominance. He scored a compelling 96 in the IPL 2023 Final and almost won them the trophy. The young left-hander already showed that he thrives on the big stage.
