The on-air coverage of the first T20I between India & West Indies on the FanCode app featured Kris Srikkanth and former Indian head-coach Ravi Shastri on commentary.
During the coverage, former selector Kris Srikkanth –who shaped the 2011 WC winning Indian Team– took an epic dig at Chetan Sharma while discussing the potential India squad for the upcoming T20 WC.
Once Kris’ teammate, Chetan Sharma was selected as the chairman of the Indian Cricket selection committee on December 24, 2020. Chetan had come under fire for the selection of the 2021 T20WC Indian squad that crashed out of the event to a group-stage exit.
If you need any advice, call me: Kris Srikkanth
Kris quoted, “If they pick the right combination then Chetan Sharma, who has played a lot of cricket with us…”
The pause was followed by, “Oye Chetu, ab correct team select karna. Advice chahiye toh mere ko phone kar do, Ravi (Shastri) ko call kar do, hum dono acha guidance denge aapko.”
This basically translates to, “Chetan, select the correct team this time. If you want any advice, call me or call Ravi for quality guidance.”
The 2022 T20 World Cup is set to start in November and India is gonna be out there to make a statement.
They’ve adopted an attacking approach after last year’s debacle and the fortunes have changed for the better. Several players have got opportunities and some of them have performed pretty well in the absence of the regulars. India faces the problem of plenty.
“This trial and error methodology that they are doing is absolutely fine. What the selectors are doing is fine. But from the Asia Cup, they have to do it (decide the players who’ll play the WC),” Srikkanth opined on the same.
The selection of the 2022 T20WC squad rests in the hands of Chetan Sharma & it is important that he picks a rounded one.
Notably, Sharma had faced serious backlash for snubbing Yuzvendra Chahal for the 2021 T20WC & selecting ‘faster spinner’ Rahul Chahar over him.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw –who were brilliant in the UAE IPL 2021– also hadn’t made the cut. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan was selected despite his underwhelming form.
Here’s hoping that our selection committee chairman selects a better squad this time around.
