ICC ODI Cricket World Cup will be organized in October-November 2023 in India.
The direct route for qualification in the ODI World Cup is the 2020–23 Super League and the top seven sides plus the hosts i.e. India will qualify directly to the main event.
South Africa, Sri Lanka fail to secure an automatic spot for ODI World Cup 2023
The second ODI between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka got called off due to rain on Sunday at Pallekele and both the teams got five World Cup Super League points. Afghanistan had earlier defeated Sri Lanka in the first ODI. Sri Lanka is now ranked tenth in the Super League points table with only 67 points and hence won’t be able to directly qualify for the ODI World Cup.
The washout against Sri Lanka gave Afghanistan five extra points in the ongoing World Cup Super League standings because of the no result and that has taken their total to 115 points in the current cycle. Afghanistan is now sitting safely in seventh spot on the current standings which makes sure that the Afghanistan team will directly qualify for the ODi World Cup in 2023.
India, England, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan have already qualified for the ODI World Cup 2023 as per their standings in the World Cup Super League points table. On the other hand, South Africa is sitting on the 11th position on the points table with 59 points from 16 games while West Indies is placed at the 8th position with 88 points in 24 games.
The World Cup Super League is a 13-team One-Day International (ODI) competition that provides a direct qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be hosted in India. Ireland, Zimbabwe and Netherlands are the other three teams participating in the league in order to secure a direct qualification for the marquee event.
