The Boxing Day test match between Australia and South Africa has added one more episode to ‘Mankad’ debate.
Australia’s pacer Mitchell Starc found Proteas batter Theunis de Bruyn out of the crease and gave him a firm warning to stay inside the crease.

Mankad debate has divided the cricket fraternity as a few former cricketers believe it’s a legal mode of dismissal as per ICC’s laws while others believe it’s still against the spirit of the game. The fourth day of Boxing Day test match between Australia and South Africa reignited the complete debate as South African batter Theunis de Bruyn was found backing up way too long.
During the 17th over of South African innings, Mitchell Starc aborted at the very last moment and left everyone surprised. Starc went back towards his run up, stared at Proteas batter Theunis de Bruyn and gave him a stern warning as he went towards his bowling mark.
“Stay in your crease, it’s not that hard! The line’s there for a reason, mate, ” Starc firmly warned Theunis de Bruyn as he looked furious with the batter.

Recently, India women’s all-rounder Deepti Sharma had run dismissed England’s Charlotte Dean at the non-striker’s end using the same mode of dismissal commonly known as the ‘Mankad’. Charlotte Dean was visibly shocked with the mode of dismissal used by Deepti and she was seen in tears after she was ruled out. The dismissal ignited the Mankad debate as most of the England cricketers criticized it despite the mode of dismissal being declared legal by the ICC.
Talking about the match, South Africa had one more poor outing with the bat as they were all out for a score of just 204 runs. Temba Bavuma was the only Proteas batter who went past the 50 mark and went on to play a fighting knock of 65 runs. All other batters failed to leave any impression including South African skipper Dean Elgar who was dismissed for a duck. Australia after declaring the innings after posting a mammoth total of 575-8 went on to win the game by an innings and 182 runs.
