Peshawar Zalmi skipper Babar Azam sent the PSL fraternity into frenzy by scoring a blistering century against Islamabad United in the 13th match of Pakistan Super League at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. In fact, luck was on his side as his mother turned up to see her son bat for the first time. The senior pro scoring a century on the memorable occasion was indeed the icing on the cake.
Besides that, Babar Azam’s team prevailed over the opposition in a thrilling encounter as they won by a whisker of 8 runs to notch up their third win of this season. With this win, they moved to the third position in the points table, accumulating six points from five games. The Peshawar Zalmi captain was adjudged the Man of the Match for his scintillating century and what happened at the post-match presentation grabbed our eyeballs.

New Zealand commentator Simon Doull has often made the headlines for his straightforward remarks as he doesn’t mince words to chip in with his views or opinions. At times, he doesn’t shy away from passing playful remarks on cricketers. After the match, Simon Doull jokingly teased Babar Azam for maintaining good strike-rate during his impeccable century. While praising Babar Azam, he also quipped, “Strike-rate was good too”.

Skipper Babar Azam scored an unbeaten 111 off 63 balls at a strike rate of 176.19 including 14 fours and 2 hits over the fence. His century guided Peshawar Zalmi to 201/5 in 20 overs. While the Islamabad United bowlers leaked plenty of runs, skipper Shadab Khan was the only decently-performing bowler as he accounted for two dismissals, giving away 28 runs in his quota of four overs.

Islamabad United did put up a great fight in the run-chase but fell short of the target as they could muster 193/9 in 20 overs. Azam Khan top-scored with 75 off 30 (6 fours and 6 sixes) whereas Colin Munro scored 71 off 53 (7 fours and a six). Peshawar Zalmi’s right-arm leg-break bowler Arif Yaqoob spun the web with the ball by taking five wickets in his quota of four overs, at an economy of 6.80.
