We are halfway through the IPL 2023 and Delhi Capitals are currently residing at the bottom of the table. Many fingers are pointed at the captain David Warner for the team’s terrible performance. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar backs Axar Patel to replace David Warner as captain considering his red-hot form and age.
It has not been the start Delhi Capital would have asked for as they lost 5 consecutive games at the beginning of the season. RCB, MI, GT, CSK, and RR have all defeated Delhi Capitals out of the 7 games they have played.
David Warner has been very sluggish with the bat and it also seemed like he is feeling the pressure of captaincy while batting. Although Warner is the 3rd highest run-getter of the season currently his runs have come at a very slow pace.
Sunil Gavaskar backs Axar Patel to replace David Warner as DC captain
The former Indian cricketer said while doing commentary that Axar is a much better choice for the captaincy role than Warner. He added “I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He’s in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in the long run”
The legendary Indian batter gave this statement in the context that Axar as a captain will benefit the Indian team as well. He also said Axar is 5 years younger than Warner which means he will be there for much longer.
Delhi Capitals won 2 back to back matches after a series of defeats
After losing 5 games on the trot DC bowlers have responded well. Delhi got their first victory against Kolkata Knight Riders when they chased down the target of 127 runs.
DC bowlers put on a show that day in particular their spin twin Axar and Kuldeep. In the very next game against SRH, DC bowlers stood up again as they defended 144 runs on a good wicket at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.
Axar Patel’s red-hot form in IPL 2023 is getting him a lot of shoutouts
