Team India’s former batter Suresh Raina is all set to go under the hammer in the Lanka Premier League 2023 Auction. The Auction will take place on June 14 and over 500 players, including 140 overseas cricketers have put their names in the auction list in order to showcase their potential in front of the Sri Lankan crowd.
The fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League will be played from 31 July to 22 August 2023. The tournament will feature 5 teams Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Aura, Jaffna Kings, Kandy Falcons and Galle Gladiators.
CSK star Suresh Raina named in Lanka Premier League 2023 auction list
Suresh Raina has reportedly been signed up for the auction at a base price of USD 50,000. He features in the list of international and domestic cricketers, released by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), set to go under the hammer in the auction on June 14.
Raina played for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and is one of the most prolific run-scorers in IPL history. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in September 2022 and was last seen playing in the Legends League Cricket in March this year.
The CSK star has played 205 IPL matches and scored more than 5,500 runs, including an unbeaten century. He was also the first Indian cricketer to have scored a hundred across all three formats of the game and was one of the integral part of the Indian limited overs side for a number of years.
Suresh Raina ranks sixth in the all-time leading run scorers list in IPL history. He finished his International career with nearly 8,000 runs and played a crucial role in Team India’s title runs at the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
The LPL franchises can directly sign two local and overseas players each in their squad ahead of the Lanka Premier League 2023 auction. Franchises are then allowed to select 14 local players and six overseas players for their respective squads.
