The maiden Lanka Premier League auction has ended in a great manner, with a total of 95 players being sold in the first-ever LPL Auction. Amongst all the other athletes 22-year-old Dilshan Madhushanka emerged as the most expensive buy. The young lad was bought by Jaffna Kings for a whopping $92,000.
Suresh Raina’s name wasn’t called in Lanka Premier League Auction
It is of vital importance to mention that there was an Indian player in the auction pool, that was Suresh Raina. Raina, he listed himself in the auction at a base price of $50,000, However even after his name was flashed on the screen, his name was not called by the auctioneer Charu Sharma.
After this incident, fans are curious to know whether he pulled out his name at the last movement or if was a mistake from the auctioneer’s end. However, Raina did not confirm registering his name for the auction and he is yet to make any official statement about his name being ignored by the auctioneer.
Raina was last seen doing the commentary in the Indian Premier League 2023 from which he retired last year in 2022. Raina was known as the Mr. IPL during his career as he scored 5528 runs in his IPL career including 39 half-centuries and one century. Several reports say that he didn’t register himself for the auction in the first place whereas, some other reports say that at the last movement, he withdrew his name. Although he announced his retirement from international cricket in August 2020 but continued to play in IPL for Chennai Super Kings till 2022, since then he was not seen playing any competitive cricket.
As per the Lanka Premier League, the auction was set to take place on 14 June, and nearly 360 people have registered themselves to go into the hammer, and the main tournament is all set to begin on 31 July.
Apart from the Sri Lankan cricketers, players from other countries were also in high demand in the auction. David Miller and Shakib-Al-Hassan attracted some successful bids in the auction, whereas, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Haris and Asif Ali were a few of the Pakistani cricketers who ended up getting sold in the auction.
