In the 17th over of Bangladesh’s innings, Mahmudullah tried to flick Ottneil Baartman’s delivery. However, he missed it, and the ball clipped his pad and raced to the boundary. The bowler quickly appealed for LBW, and the umpire Sam Nogajski raised his finger. Mahmudullah immediately reviewed the decision, assuming it was going down the leg side.
The replay showed there was a daylight gap between the ball and the stumps. Consequently, the umpire had to reverse his decision. However, Bangladesh did not get the 4 runs because, according to the rules, if an umpire gives a batter out, no leg byes or byes can be given even if the third umpire overturns the decision.
If the umpire had not adjudged Mahmudullah out, Bangladesh would have added 4 runs to their scorecard, potentially altering the outcome, considering they lost the game by the same margin. After the decision was overturned, the on-field umpire Sam Nogajski faced criticism from the Bangladesh crowd, who booed in response.
