South Africa will begin their Test Championship campaign with this series.
Team India Eying World Record
Meanwhile, Team India is eying a big world record in the series. This is India’s first home test series since beating West Indies in 2018. If India wins this test series against South Africa then it will be India’s 11th consecutive test series win at home. Currently, India is levelled in this record with Australia who has won 1o consecutive series at home twice. Once, between 1994 to 2000 and the second time between 2004 to 2008. But, both times Australia’s streak was ended after winning 10 series.
If India wins this series then it will be the first side to win 11 home series in a row. The last time India lost a test series at home was against England in 2012-13 season. After which, India has won all 10 test series at home between 2013 and 2019. Now again, India is favourites to win as India side is looking strong as compared to South Africa’s.

Virat Kohli is also set to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record in the series. Currently, Virat is 281 runs away from completing 21,000 international runs. Virat Kohli needs to complete the milestone in the next 41 innings to become fastest to reach this milestone. Virat Kohli will easily achieve this record but it will be interesting to see if he achieves it in this series. Currently, Sachin Tendulkar is holding this record who took 473 runs to reach 21,000 runs. The second fastest is Brian Lara who took 485 innings.
Eyes will be on Rohit Sharma in this series as he will open the innings for the first time in tests. However, he didn’t have a great start as he got out on a duck in practice match. There might will some pressure on him as he will replace Kl Rahul at the slot who was heavily criticised for his inconsistent performance. Although, it’s a great chance for Rohit to perform well and settle his place in the test time.
