Jos Buttler has added another historic milestone to his already glittering white-ball career. The England wicketkeeper-batter became the highest run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket during Manchester Super Giants’ dominant nine-wicket win over Welsh Fire in The Hundred Men’s 2026. In doing so, he went past West Indies great Kieron Pollard and claimed the top spot on the all-time run charts.
The record didn’t come by accident. Buttler has spent years dominating bowlers across international cricket and franchise leagues around the world. He has played fearless cricket, adapted to different conditions, and delivered consistently for every team he has represented. His latest achievement reflects that consistency as much as his explosive batting.
Buttler reached the milestone in his usual aggressive style. Chasing 156, he took on South Africa fast bowler Marco Jansen and hammered him for three consecutive sixes. The very first six took him past Pollard’s tally and made him the leading run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket.
He didn’t stop there. Buttler remained unbeaten on 51 from just 20 balls, smashing six sixes to help Manchester Super Giants chase down 156 with 31 balls to spare. His innings turned a straightforward chase into a one-sided contest and helped his team end a three-match losing streak.

The England star now has 14,833 runs in 522 T20 matches, while Pollard finished with 14,803 runs in 746 games. West Indies legend Chris Gayle sits third on the list with 14,562 runs. Those numbers make Buttler’s achievement even more impressive. He reached the top in more than 200 fewer matches than Pollard.
T20 cricket rewards fearless batting, but it also tests players like no other format. Teams travel across the world, bowlers keep inventing new variations, and every league brings fresh challenges. “It’s really cool, actually, to think you’ve got the most T20 runs out of anyone. Someone will surpass it one day, and his name’s probably Vaibhav Suryavanshi, but it’s a proud moment.”
His answer immediately grabbed attention because he backed India’s teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the player most likely to overtake him in the future. Coming from the man who now sits at the top of the all-time list, that prediction carries plenty of weight.
Buttler also revealed that he had hoped to break the record in Manchester Super Giants’ previous game, when Pollard was around.
“It would have been nice if Polly was here. I was one run short in the last game. He’s a great friend of mine and someone I respect hugely.”
The comment summed up Buttler’s character. Instead of celebrating only his own achievement, he praised Pollard, one of the biggest names the T20 format has ever produced.
Manchester Super Giants also produced one of their best batting displays of the season. Tim Seifert gave the chase the perfect start with an unbeaten 62 from 36 balls, while Paul Walter blasted 37 off just 18 deliveries. Buttler then finished the job in style, attacking both Marco Jansen and Lockie Ferguson without allowing Welsh Fire any chance to fight back.
Earlier, Welsh Fire posted 155/4 after Matt Short scored 71 from 47 balls and Phil Salt added 48 during a 125-run opening partnership. However, the innings slowed down after the opening stand ended. Gus Atkinson bowled brilliantly and picked up 2/12 to keep the target well within reach.
The victory gave Manchester Super Giants two valuable points, but the night belonged to Buttler. Records often define careers, and this one certainly strengthens his legacy. He has thrilled fans with breathtaking strokeplay for years, but this milestone rewards something even more valuable—his ability to perform season after season.
