Rohit Sharma may be entering the final phase of his ODI career, but he still has plenty left to offer. Every time he walks out to bat in India’s blue jersey, fans expect something memorable. It could be a majestic century, a trademark pull shot sailing into the stands, or another major record quietly added to his legendary career.

Over the years, Rohit has built a reputation for delivering unforgettable moments on the biggest stages. Even now, he continues to show why he remains one of the finest ODI batters of his generation.

India are scheduled to play 11 ODIs in the 2026 calendar year, and that gives Rohit a strong chance to climb even higher among cricket’s all-time batting greats. If he enjoys another consistent season, several major milestones could soon fall in his path.

Rohit Sharma Eyes Three ODI Milestones in 2026

At 39, he may not play as much ODI cricket as before, but even a short run of good form could help him surpass some legendary names.

The most immediate milestone in front of him is the race for ODI runs. Rohit currently has 11,593 runs in the format and needs just 147 more runs to go past former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, who finished with 11,739 ODI runs. Considering Rohit’s consistency in white-ball cricket, this is a record he could cross very early in the year.

What makes this achievement even more special is the way Rohit has scored his runs. Unlike many traditional accumulators, Rohit has built his ODI legacy through attacking cricket. He changed the role of an opener in modern-day ODI cricket with fearless strokeplay, giant sixes, and the ability to completely dominate bowling attacks once he settles in. From scoring three double centuries to leading India in ICC tournaments, the experienced campaigner has already cemented his place among the greatest ODI batters ever.

Rohit Sharma has remained not out 37 times in ODI cricket. Usually, attacking batters take more risks and end up losing their wickets more often. But Rohit has managed to combine aggression with control for more than a decade.

Only a few legendary names currently stand ahead of him in this list. Ricky Ponting, Allan Border, and Mahela Jayawardene each remained unbeaten 39 times in ODIs. If Rohit manages to stay not out just three more times this year, he will go past all three legends.

It may sound like a small statistic, but it actually reflects a batter’s match awareness and ability to finish innings strongly. Rohit has often played the role of anchor and aggressor together for India. He has delivered countless impactful innings where he carried the team deep into the game.

Then comes another major landmark – ODI fifties. Rohit currently has 61 half-centuries in the format. Ahead of him are some iconic names from world cricket. Mohammad Yousuf and Aravinda de Silva scored 64 fifties each, while Brian Lara finished with 63 ODI fifties.

Rohit is just four fifties away from moving past all of them. Considering how naturally he converts starts into big scores, this milestone also looks very achievable in 2026. Even in recent years, Rohit has shown that he still possesses the timing and class that made him one of the most feared ODI openers in history.

What makes these records more emotional for Indian fans is the uncertainty surrounding Rohit’s ODI future. Every ODI series now feels valuable because nobody knows how long he will continue playing the format. That is why every run, every fifty, and every milestone feels bigger than before.
