In cricket, pacers typically have shorter careers compared to batters and spinners. The physical demands of their run-up and bowling action make fitness a constant challenge, with injuries being an ever-present risk. As a result, only a select few pacers continue playing into their 40s. James Anderson and Peter Siddle, however, stand out as remarkable exceptions.
Like James Anderson, Peter Siddle is still grinding at over 40 years of age. The former Australian Test pacer is currently representing the Melbourne Stars in the ongoing Big Bash League season. What’s even more impressive is that he’s still bowling at speeds exceeding 140 KMPH.
Peter Siddle Clocked 148 KMPH At 40
In the last league match of the season between the Stars and Hurricanes, Siddle stunned everyone with a 148 KMPH delivery. It was a full-length ball, wide of the off-stump, which Tim David left alone. Watching Siddle’s energy and intensity, even David couldn’t help but smile, giving him a fist bump as a gesture of appreciation.

Peter Siddle made his debut for Australia in 2008 and was a regular member of the Test team until 2014. In the following years, he drifted in and out of the squad before bringing the curtains down on his 67-Test career during the 2019 Ashes series. At just 35 years old, Siddle had retired to pave the way for younger bowlers.
However, judging by his pace in the ongoing BBL 2024-25 season, it seems as though he’s aging in reverse. His ability to consistently clock high speeds suggests he might still be capable of playing international cricket even today.

Peter Siddle’s blistering pace will likely be on display again this season, as the Melbourne Stars have qualified for the playoffs after defeating the Hobart Hurricanes. Marcus Stoinis-led Stars are set to face the Sydney Thunder in the Eliminator match on January 22.
