Fans breaching security and invading the pitch have become mainstream nowadays, especially in India. In a country where scores of people watch the sport, the passion and zeal that the fans have for the game is never in doubt. While some fans invade the pitch to touch their idols or take selfies, others simply invade the pitch to gain attention. However, one must note that these antics are not good for the sport as it causes unnecessary delays and potentially affecting the concentration and performance of the players in the first place.
During the recently-concluded game between Mumbai Indians Women and UP Warriorz at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, one of the fans breached the security and invaded the turf, which disrupted the momentum of the game. Meanwhile, Australia Women’s cricketer Alyssa Healy who represents UP Warriorz decided to take the matter in her own hands as she tackled the pitch invader.

UP Warriorz’ captain Alyssa Healy who was seen donning the wicketkeeping gloves used all their strength to tackle the pitch intruder and the incident became a major talking point on the internet. The drama unfolded after the penultimate ball of MI Women’s innings when UP Warriorz’ fast bowler Anjali Sarvani got rid of Sajeevan Sajana. All of a sudden, one of the fans breached the security and entered the turf before he ran onto the field.

The play was halted for some time and once things got sorted out, the game resumed. Talking about the match, batting first, MI Women posted a challenging total of 161/6 in their designated quota of 20 overs. Hayley Matthews top-scored with 55 off 47 deliveries including 9 fours and a six. On the other hand, UP Warriorz chased down the target without any fuss as they did it so in 16.3 overs.

Kiran Navgire was the pick of the batswomen for UP Warriorz as she top-scored with 57 off 31 balls including six fours and 4 sixes. Besides that, Grace Harris also looked good for her unbeaten 38 off 17 (6 fours, 1 six). With this win, UP Warriorz finally opened their account in the ongoing WPL 2024 season. They are currently fourth on the points table (1 win, 2 defeats) with 2 points at a NRR of -0.357.
