The fans witnessed yet another India-Pakistan thriller in the second round of the biggest rivalry in cricket. While the first round was won by India, their Asian counterpart outclassed them in the second round as they won the match by 5 wickets. Rishabh Pant was included in the Playing XI in place of Dinesh Karthik and the southpaw got out playing an unnecessary reverse sweep. The fans couldn’t ask for more than India and Pakistan clash in not just one, but two games in the same tournament. However, the Indian fans were in for heartbreak on Sunday as their team couldn’t replicate the same performance that the fans saw last Sunday. There were many reasons for India’s loss and one of them was Pant’s needless and premeditative reverse-sweep which led to his downfall. In a video that has been doing the rounds on the internet, Rohit Sharma scolds Rishabh Pant after his dismissal.
Pant’s shot came in the 14th over when team India was trying to change gears and take the Pakistani bowlers to the cleaner, however, Pant’s wicket slowed things down for the team. On the fifth delivery of the 14th over, Pant went for a reverse-sweep but Shadab cleverly bowled the googly outside leg and the batsman hit it straight to backward point. The Indian team needed Pant to stay on the crease till the end but the batsman couldn’t resist playing the shot and fell on an individual score of just 14.

The Indian skipper was livid with the way Pant got out and Rohit Sharma scolds Rishabh Pant in the dressing room. The video of the same has gone viral where Rohit can be seen furiously talking to Pant and the latter seems to explain why he went for that shot. Along with Pant’s early downfall, a dropped catch by Arshdeep Singh and a very expensive 19th over led to India’s defeat in the second Super 4 game of the Asia Cup 2022.
