South Africa is facing Australia in the Boxing Day test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
South Africa’s pacer Anrich Nortje met a horrible incident as the Spidercam knocked him down during Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test.
Anrich Nortje escapes major injury during the Boxing Day Test
South African pacer Anrich Nortje, after finishing his spell was fielding in the backward square region during the 47th over of the Australian innings. Just as he was looking backwards meandering towards his fielding position, he was knocked down as the moving spider cam hit him at some speed.
Nortje suffered a sudden blow from the spidercam and fell down on the ground as all the players noticed the bizarre incident. South Africa’s physio came running onto the field and checked if the pacer had suffered some major injury. The physio checked Nortje for concussion as well as he was directly hit on his head by the spidercam. However, the South African pacer didn’t suffer any major injury and remained on the field. The commentators too showed some concern over the unfortunate accident that happened because the spider cam was moving a bit too low.

David Warner and Steve Smith were batting together when Nortje faced the horrible blow on his head. Both the batters looked concerned about the pacer’s injury too. The Boxing Day test match against the Proteas is David Warner’s 100th test and he didn’t miss out on an opportunity to make it even special by scoring a double ton and kept troubling the South African pace lineup which has the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje. Steve Smith too supported him with a well-made 85.
Earlier, the Proteas batting lineup crumbled for a score of just 189 as they had no answers against Cameron Green’s consistent line and lengths. Green went on to grab his first five-wicket haul in the longest format of the game.
At the stumps of day 2, Australia has placed themselves in the driver’s position as they have already got a lead of 197 runs in the first innings that too with 7 wickets still in their hands.
