Bangladesh took on Pakistan in the 3rd Place Play-off in the Asian Games Mens T20I 2023 at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou on October 7. In the rain-affected contest, Bangladesh scored 20 runs off the last over to clinch Asian Games Bronze Medal courtesy of their exceptional batting display.
Bangladesh skipper Saif Hassan opted to bowl first after winning the toss as there was a possibility of the contest being affected by rain. Pakistan openers Khushdil Shah and Mirza Baig provided them the kind of start they needed with the bat.
The Men in Green had scored 48-1 at the end of the 5th over when it again started raining heavily. The match was then shortened to a 5-over-per-side contest and Bangladesh were given a DRS revised target of 65 runs in 5 overs.

The Bangladesh side got off to a terrible start as they lost their opener Zakir Hasan and skipper Saif Hassan off consecutive deliveries in the first over. Pakistan pacer Arshad Iqbal just gave 9 runs off the first over and took 2 crucial wickets pushing back the Saif Hassan-led side in the Asian Games Bronze Medal match.
Arshad Iqbal bowled an exceptional 4th over of the Bangladesh innings after which they were placed at a score of 45-3. They now needed 20 runs off the final 6 deliveries as leg-spinner Sufiyan Muqeem was given the responsibility to bowl the final over of the crucial match.
Yasir Ali smashed a maximum off the very delivery against Muqeem and put the complete pressure onto the Pakistan bowler. He then took a couple and then smashed another six off the third delivery of the final over.
The Bangladesh team now needed just 6 runs off the last three balls and it looked like they were in the driver’s seat. However, Yasir took a couple of the next delivery and was then dismissed off the penultimate delivery leaving his side 4 runs short with just 1 ball remaining.
