T20 Blast 2023: Ben McDermott stuns Michael Burgess with a hilarious stumping
Hampshire left-arm spinner Liam Dawson came in to bowl the 10th over of Sussex innings. He dismissed Shadab Khan who was struggling to score and could only manage a solitary run from 11 deliveries.
On the final delivery of the same over, Sussex keeper batter Michael Burgess was deceived by Dawson’s flight and eventually played outside the line, and thus, he was beaten on the inside edge. The momentum of the shot took Burgess out of the crease, leading to a regulation stumping chance.
However, Ben McDermott failed to collect the ball cleanly and the ball went on to hit his lower abdomen area and then ricocheted onto the stumps leading to a hilarious stumping. The Hampshire wicketkeeper leaped in joy after he saw Michael Burgess out of the crease.
The leg-umpire did not take much time to raise the finger either. Liam Dawson too was delighted to get two wickets in the space of three balls that further applied brakes on Sussex’ innings.
Vitality Blast shared the video of the hilarious stumping in the Hampshire vs Sussex game on their official Twitter handle. They wrote, “Well, it goes down as stumping in the book.”
