Freak injuries have become one of the most discussed points amongst the cricket fraternity nowadays.
Australia’s star batter David Warner met with one such freak injury as he was celebrating his double ton in the Boxing Day test match.
David Warner’s ecstatic celebration costs him big as he walks back retired hurt
David Warner finally ended his 1089 days long wait for a triple-figure mark in Test cricket as he scored a ton against the Proteas in the Boxing Day test match. He then went on to convert it into a double-ton as he kept troubling the South African bowlers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The aggressive opener was so elated after scoring a double hundred that he celebrated it in an ecstatic manner. Warner hit Ngidi for a boundary when he was playing at 196 and immediately went down on his knees and pumped his fists with absolute delight. The Aussie opener then went on to perform his trademark jump celebration and ended up badly hurting himself.
Warner had faced 254 deliveries and the hard-fought innings had made him suffer from cramps. The exciting celebrations further aggravated his pain. The veteran left-hander as he clutched the back of his thighs and immediately called for medical help. Warner was then carried out of the field by his teammates and his impressive innings was put on a halt as he was declared retired hurt.

The swashbuckling opener was going through a tough phase in his career as he hadn’t scored a ton in the longest format of the game for almost three years. There were some question marks over his place in the Australian side as there were some young openers still waiting for their opportunities. He had gone through a bitter episode on his captaincy ban overturn as well.
Warner’s double ton has now put the Aussie side on the driver’s seat in the Boxing Day test match against South Africa as they have got a vital lead of 197 runs with 7 wickets in their bank. Australia will now look to push the lead above the 300 mark on the third day in order to keep the South African side under immense pressure.
