Five Time Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have had abysmal start to their 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign as the Mumbai based side lost their sixth consecutive match against Lucknow Super Giants. The team is out of the playoff contention and it seems that anger and frustration is growing in the Mumbai’s camp.
The team has failed to perform collectively and individually and the frustration was visible after opener Ishan Kishan smashed the advertising cushion on the boundry line after getting out in the game against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday.
After winning the toss MI skipper Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first in the hopes that the bowling lineup could stop LSG from putting a big total on the board. But they failed to do so and had a mammoth task of chasing down 200 runs.
The five-time-champions needed a good start but they lost their skipper Rohit Sharma early doors. Kishan had all the bourdon on his shoulders as he was expected to take charge of the innings. But the left-handed batsman seemed to have been struggling on the pitch. He crawled his way to 13 off 17 deliveries before getting out to Marcus Stoinis in the 7th over of the innings. Frustrated he smashed the advertising cushion on his way to the dressing room and he could get penalized for his action.

Kishan who is having a tough time in the current season and is struggling to justify his price tag as he was the most expensive player of the mega auction in February earlier this year. Mumbai secured his services for a whopping amount of RS 15.25 crore. But apart from the 81* in the season opener against Delhi Capitals (DC), the southpaw has not been able to make an impact in any of the other matches.
Kishan had a good start to the IPL 2022 season scoring back to back half centuries scoring 81* and 54 in the first two matches against DC and Rajasthan Royals before losing his touch suddenly. His last four matches he has managed to score only a total of 56 runs as his scorecard read– 14, 26, 3 and 13. The MI faithfuls will be hoping that he returns to his best sooner rather than later.
Mumbai are going to play defending champions Chennai Super Kings in their next match as the team is seemingly our of the race for the playoff spots.
