Monday’s IPL game between the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders has gotten off to a scintillating start; thanks to some sensational pyrotechnics from the Rajasthan batting lineup. Opener Jos Buttler has looked to attack everything in sight, and has been the aggressor in-charge behind RR’s power-packed batting effort.
Rajasthan’s intent towards scoring quick runs was evident from early on in the game; more specifically, from the 3rd over of the match, where Buttler and his opening partner, Devdutt Padikkal, managed to run four runs off a single delivery!

Umesh Yadav lobbed a quick full-length delivery outside the off-stump that Buttler smartly parried off to backward point. Venkatesh Iyer, the fielder positioned at the region, ran brilliantly to keep up with the fast outfield and timed his dive perfectly to save the boundary.
He got good support from Nitish Rana, who deftly collected the ball and threw it back to the ‘keeper, Sheldon Jackson; but as it turned out, Jos Buttler and Padikkal had already managed to run four runs in the interim! Jackson did try to run Buttler out and the decision was referred to the TV umpire; but the replays showed Buttler was well inside his crease.
What’s commendable about this manner of scoring is that there wasn’t really any misfield or howler from KKR; but just some good, smart running from the batters that payed off really well. Simon Doull, who was commentating the match at the time, was also left immensely impressed at the Rajasthan openers’ exceptional display of intent. Here’s the video of the incident:

As it turned out, Buttler kept going with his blitzkrieg batting form and managed to notch up his second century of the season. He finished with 103 off 61 balls and has put RR firmly in control of the game.
