WATCH: Jos Buttler Pulls Off World Record 122-Metre Catch, Leaves Cricket Fans Speechless

You don’t usually expect to see a world record being created outside a live match. But Jos Buttler just gave cricket fans something completely unexpected. The England wicketkeeper-batter recently pulled off what is now being called the highest cricket catch ever recorded. The height? A massive 122 meters. Yes, 122 meters. That is not a typo. That is roughly the height of a 40-story building.

When the video first surfaced online, many thought it was edited. The ball looked like a tiny dot in the sky. For a few seconds, you could barely track it on screen. And then there was Buttler—standing still, eyes fixed upward, waiting.

Jos Buttler leaves cricket fans speechless with a 122-meter catch

This was not a casual stunt. A cricket ball dropped from 122 meters does not float gently. It gains serious speed. Gravity does not care about reputations. By the time the ball travels that distance, it comes down fast and hard. Judging that fall requires extreme concentration. One small miscalculation and it hits the ground.

But Buttler did not panic. He adjusted his position calmly. He did not overrun it. He did not flinch. He simply watched, trusted his instincts, and completed the catch cleanly.

And just like that, a new world record was born. The previous record stood at just under 120 metres. On paper, the difference may look small. In reality, those extra metres make a huge difference. Every additional metre increases the difficulty because the ball travels faster and becomes harder to track. Wind can shift it. Sunlight can blind you. Your neck starts to strain. Your timing must be perfect.

This is where Buttler’s wicketkeeping background showed. He has spent years standing behind the stumps, reacting in split seconds. He has taken sharp edges off fast bowlers and tricky deflections off spinners. His hands are soft but secure. His reflexes are sharp. But even for someone with that experience, this challenge was extreme.

Now, he adds something different to his legacy. This record will not count in match statistics. It will not add to his run tally. But it shows something about his mindset. Top athletes often look for new ways to challenge themselves. They push boundaries. They test their limits. That is exactly what this felt like.

Social media reacted instantly as the fans called it insane. Some said they felt nervous just watching the ball fall. Others praised his courage. And honestly, that reaction makes sense. Because when you think about it, standing under a ball falling from 122 meters takes serious belief.

Cricket has always been a sport of skill and precision. But moments like this remind us that it is also about confidence and nerve. Buttler trusted his eyes. He trusted his hands. He trusted the process.

We often talk about great catches in finals or under stadium lights. We replay those moments for years. This one might be different in setting, but it deserves the same respect. It required control. It required bravery. And it required absolute focus.

Jos Buttler has already built a reputation as one of England’s finest white-ball cricketers. With this record-breaking catch, he has added something unique to his story. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler is currently part of the ongoing edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Recently, England lost to West Indies by 30 runs. They will lock horns with the Scotland cricket team on Saturday, February 14.
