MS Dhoni has once again grabbed the spotlight after returning to training ahead of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League. The former CSK captain sparked excitement among fans after a video from the team’s practice session started circulating online.
The clip came from the training facilities of the Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. In the video, Dhoni looked comfortable during a net session. He batted alongside current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, while domestic star Sarfaraz Khan watched the session closely from nearby.
For many CSK supporters, seeing Dhoni back in the nets always brings excitement. Even during a simple practice session, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter manages to attract attention.
CSK begin pre-season preparations ahead of IPL 2026
The Chennai Super Kings have officially started their pre-season preparations. The early training sessions offer a first look at the squad combinations and the leadership setup under Gaikwad. More importantly, the sessions also give fans a glimpse of Dhoni’s preparation for another IPL campaign.
In the video shared by the franchise, Dhoni appeared relaxed and focused during the net session. He spent time at the crease, struck a few clean shots, and looked comfortable while facing the bowlers. The veteran seemed to enjoy his time in the middle as the team slowly eased into its training routine.
One moment during the session quickly stood out. A delivery went well outside the off-stump. Dhoni chose not to play at the ball in the first place; instead, he stretched his arms out and jokingly mimicked the umpire’s signal for a wide.
The veteran’s playful gesture brought smiles from those watching the session.
MS Dhoni keeps the mood light during training
The former CSK captain has always believed in keeping the dressing room atmosphere relaxed, especially during long tournaments like the IPL.
Even at 44, the former India captain continues to attract attention whenever he steps onto the field. For younger players in the squad, simply watching him train from close range can be a valuable experience.
Several Indian players attended the early training camp. The five-time IPL champions began their training camp at the franchise’s high-performance centre with several Indian players joining the first phase of preparations.

Young players like Ayush Mhatre, Mukesh Choudhary, Rahul Chahar, Urvil Patel, Ramakrishna Ghosh and Sarfaraz Khan were all present during the session. The franchise shared several glimpses from the practice day.
One interesting visual showed Dhoni and captain Gaikwad batting in neighbouring nets. Both players spent time working on their batting as the team began its build-up for the new season. Two new additions to the squad, Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, were also part of the session. The duo joined the drills after being picked up by the franchise during the IPL 2026 auction.
Meanwhile, Sarfaraz appeared to watch Dhoni’s practice closely and was probably studying the veteran’s approach in the nets. Meanwhile, Gaikwad looked confident during his session and displayed solid footwork at the crease.
With the early training sessions now underway, the Chennai camp has started building momentum for the upcoming season.
