KL Rahul and Washington Sundar left Rohit Sharma frustrated and played a big part in the 1-wicket loss Team India suffered at the hands of Bangladesh at Dhaka on December 4.
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz (38* off 39) saw the hosts over the line in a tense encounter, winning the Man of The Match award in the process.
However, Hasan’s heroics would not have been possible at all had KL Rahul and Washington Sundar held onto the straightforward chances on offer during the closing stages of the match.
KL Rahul and Sundar leave Rohit Sharma frustrated
Following Kuldeep Sen’s 41st over that cost 14 runs, skipper Rohit Sharma replaced him with Shardul Thakur in his bid to get the 10th wicket. The move almost paid off, as Thakur’s short balls rushed Mehidy Hasan Miraz into playing poor shots off consecutive balls during the 43rd over of the chase.
First, a well-directed bouncer flew off Hasan Miraz’s attempted hook to the square-leg region and Rahul failed to hold onto the ball despite having his keeping gloves on. Then, Washington Sundar followed the footsteps of KL Rahul, failing to spot the ball under floodlights and not going for a definite catch at third man.
Huge chances to seal the game were missed, and hence, captain Rohit Sharma appeared frustrated at the duo; even cursing at Sundar for missing the second chance.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz made full use of the missed chances and hit 4 vital boundaries in the upcoming overs en route to a match-winning 51-run partnership with Mustafizur for the last wicket.

The match was forgettable for the Indian batters (except Rahul who scored 73) as Shakib’s five-for limited them to a sub-par score of 186 runs. Though the bowlers reduced Bangladesh to 136 for 9 at one point, they were left clueless to Mehidy Hasan’s assault and couldn’t get the job done either.
