The Indian Women Cricket team took on South Africa today in the Do-or-Die match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022. The Indian batters took charge from the word ‘Go’ as they put up a very competitive total. Shafali Verma in particular stole the limelight as she notched up a quick fifty for her team. During her inning, the explosive batter reminded everyone of the 360°-degree batsman AB de Villiers with one of her shots.
Shafali Verma reminds everyone of AB de Villiers
Team India’s game against South Africa was a knock-out game for the team and a victory would have confirmed their place in the Semi-Final. Unfortunately, the Proteas proved to be too good and won the match by 3 wickets. However, Shafali Verma treated the fans with some exclusive shots during her 46-ball stay on the crease. She played a scoop shot so well that she reminded everyone of AB de Villiers, who is known for playing shots like these.
The shot came in the third over of the first inning when South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail was bowling to Shafali Verma. The batter had already hit the bowler for two consecutive boundaries and she followed it up with a spectacular scoop shot on the third delivery as she completed the hat-trick of boundaries. The ball went away over vacant short fine where no fielder was placed. She was looking really good but unluckily got run-out in the 15th over.

India’s loss against South Africa has ensured their elimination from the Women’s World Cup, while West Indies have gone through to the Semi-Final. Shafali Verma’s opening partner Smriti Mandhana scored a half-century as well which was followed by captain Mithali Raj’s 68 runs. Though the batters notched-up a pretty good score, the bowlers couldn’t restrict the opposition which resulted in South Africa’s victory.
