Australia’s star batter Steve Smith was amidst some limelight after he struck a masterful double century on Thursday against West Indies after remaining out of form for quite some time.
However, he was also part of a forgetful incident as he unintentionally hurt the ground umpire with his bat during the unbeaten knock of 200 runs.

Australia posted a mammoth total of 598-4 against West Indies in the first test played in Perth. Aussies resumed their innings on the second day of the Perth Test after losing just two wickets on the first day. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith had no mercy on Indies bowlers as they kept on playing their shots throughout the first two sessions of the second day. Australia eventually declared the innings after both Labuschagne and Smith scored their double centuries.
Steve Smith, amongst all the glorious moments, went through a forgetful incident as he went on to unintentionally hurt the ground Umpire with his bat at the non-striker’s end. While the West Indies bowler was going back to his run-up, Smith casually walked to his non-striker position while his bat was still in motion and ended up hurting the Umpire’s leg. The ground umpire made a weird noise as it must have hurt him much with the modern-day willow. The Aussie batter straightaway asked the Umpire if he was alright and didn’t get hurt much with the bat.

After the end of the day’s play, in the conversation with commentators, the Aussie batter was made reminded about the incident. The broadcaster while making fun of Smith asked whether it was the only forgetful moment of the day for him. Smith was also asked if he was afraid of being given out whenever the ball hits his pad in the next few minutes of the incident to which he hilariously replied that he didn’t want to give any such chance to the umpire.

Marnus Labuschagne scored 204 runs while Smith remained not out on 200. Smith also matched legendary Aussie batter Donald Bradman as he scored his 29th Test ton and must be looking to overtake the record soon.
