A fielder tends to make a mistake on the field while patrolling at a fielding position owing to a lapse of concentration or inability to react on time. However, the chances of multiple fielders making a mistake at the same time at slip is seen as a rare occurrence in the history of cricket. In a never-before-seen incident, as many as three fielders made a blunder, which saw them drop a regulation catch and the video clip of the same has gone viral on social media. The incident happened during the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
On Day 2 of Sri Lanka’s innings at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, Prabath Jayasuriya attempted to hit the ball towards the off side off Khaled Ahmed’s bowling. As it turned out, he ended up getting an edge off his willow and the ball carried towards the slip. While it was supposed to be a regulation catch, Bangladesh fielders were involved in an absolute comedy of errors as they dropped a dolly.

The likes of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shahadat Hossain Dipu and Zakir Hasan had a chance to take a catch but much to everyone’s surprise, each of them ended up juggling it before dropping the red cherry. The incident became a talking point on social media. Talking about the game, Sri Lanka are in a commanding position and it seems like they are the favourites to win this game.
Batting first, the visitors posted a humongous total of 531. The majority of the Sri Lankan batters added a chunk of runs collectively, which saw them piling up a huge total. As many as six batters pitched in with 6 fifty-plus scores in the same innings. Kusal Mendis top-scored with 93 whereas Kamindu Mendis scored 92. Dimuth Karunaratne scored 86 whereas captain Dhananjaya de Silva scored 70.

The likes of Dinesh Chandimal and Nishan Madushka scored 59 and 57 respectively. At the time of writing this article, Bangladesh posted 178/9 in 68 overs and still trail by 353 runs. Zakir Hasan top-scored with 54 runs. The hosts who already lost the first Test by 328 runs find themselves in a real spot of bother and they need a miracle to steer clear of Test series whitewash at home.
