In the ongoing Test match against South Africa, Team India faced a top-order collapse against Kagiso Rabada. However, contributions from Virat Kohli, Shreyas, Iyer, and a century by KL Rahul helped India reach a respectable total of 245 runs. In the second innings, Mohammed Siraj provided an early breakthrough, dismissing Aiden Markram for just 5 runs, but Dean Elgar became a formidable obstacle for the Indian side.
Dean Elgar is well-set at 140 runs at the end of the second day, and South Africa is leading by 11 runs. However, during the last overs of the day, there was some moments of relief for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side as they managed to dismiss dangerous-looking David Bendingham and newly arrived Kyle Verreynne within two overs. Bendingham was clean bowled by Siraj, but the credit for Verreynne’s wicket should be given to Virat Kohli.

In the 5th ball of the 62nd over of the innings, Kyle Verreynne tried to cut Prasidh Krishna’s short-pitched delivery. However, the ball ended up on KL Rahul’s gloves, who then made a confident appeal for caught-behind. Prasidh Krishna also followed with an appeal but the umpire remained unmoved. Afterward, Rohit Sharma asked Indian players whether to take the review or not.
Virat Kohli who positioned at the first slip, expressed confidence that Kyle Verreynne had edged the ball, stating, “Out hai” (he’s out). Initially, Rohit Sharma hesitated to go upstairs for the DRS, but Kohli’s conviction led him to take the review. The snicko-meter showed spikes and confirmed that the batter had indeed edged the ball. Consequently, Kyle Verreynne headed back to the pavilion after scoring just 4 runs, and India secured their fifth wicket.

After the fall of the 5th wicket, Marco Jansen came in to bat, and in the remaining four overs, South Africa didn’t lose any wickets. South Africa will resume their innings on Day 3 from 256 for 5, leading by 11 runs. Taking Dean Elgar’s wicket early on Day 3 will be a key objective for the Indian team.
