If you ask someone the maximum number of runs that can be scored in one ball in cricket, the answer will typically be six. However, the Zimbabwe vs India match in Harare witnessed a rare occasion where 13 runs were scored on the very first ball of the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal has entered his name in the history books, as this is the maximum number of runs scored on the first ball of an international match.
Yashasvi Jaiswal smashes 13 runs in 1 ball
After winning the toss, Sikandar Raza invited India to bat first. Raza decided to bowl the very first over, which was risky against the aggressive Yashasvi Jaiswal, who likes to attack spinners. Raza’s plan backfired as he bowled a waist-high full toss to Jaiswal, who took it as a gift and swatted it powerfully for a six.
The umpire called it a no-ball due to its height, and the free hit gave Jaiswal the license to swing his arms. Raza bowled a shortish delivery, allowing Jaiswal to hammer the ball down the ground. With this, India’s scorecard read 13 runs after the first ball.

However, Sikandar Raza had the last laugh as he cleaned up Jaiswal on the 4th ball of the over. Despite a great start, the 22-year-old batter had to walk back early. Sanju Samson’s half-century and a finishing touch from Shivam Dube took India’s score to 167 runs. In the chase, the Zimbabwe side was restricted to 125 runs, with Mukesh Kumar scalping 4 wickets.

Talking about Jaiswal, he was included in the India squad for the last three matches and made the most of the 3 opportunities he got on the Zimbabwe tour. Jaiswal scored 141 runs in 3 games, averaging 71. Now, he is expected to be part of India’s T20I squad, which will head to Sri Lanka.
