After the introduction of World Test Championship in 2019, the respect and love for the game has grown rapidly. The second WTC cycle is about to end but what if the rain stops the play or the match ends as a draw then will the reserve day comes into play or not. Let’s have a look at the rules for reserve day.
Although the weather report suggest that it will be cloudy on June 7, without any precipitation, and Day 2 and Day 3 are forecast to be colder with zero chances of rain. However, the Reserve Day rule states that the sixth day will only comes into play if rain or thunderstorm forces a delay or a washout on any one of the five days with no result being reached at the end of Day 5 then only the reserve day will come into play.
If after 5 days of play the match ends on a draw then who will lift the title? Will Australia be handed the prize as they finished at top of the group table? The answer is ‘No’. In fact, both sides will share the Test mace. The Champions Trophy 2002 also witnessed this scenario where India and Sri Lanka were both named as the joint winners.
We should not forget that 2021 WTC final also started with a washout on the Day 1 and India ends up losing the WTC final. However, the time and the opponents have changed.
After the WTC inclusion Test Cricket, has been looked up as important as the other two formats are. Test cricket is the only form of cricket that determines the discipline and class of a player. WTC will be conducted in a 2 year cycle with top two teams directly qualifying for the finals.
